Greater North Belfast Women Networking re-launches with a special “Banquet” at The Lansdowne Hotel

Following on from the wonderful success of last year’s events, conversations and workshops, Greater North Belfast Women Networking started the next phase with a special re-launch event at the Lansdowne Hotel, Belfast on Monday, 19th September.
Picking up where we left off earlier this year, the wonderful image produced for the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, “Banquet” created by artist Rita Duffy and a range of local women, was the central focus of the event – continuing  with the theme - a “feast” of women engaging, women sharing, women learning and women leading the way.

Over 100 women from across many areas of Greater North Belfast filled the large hall and the conversations flowed.
Shankill Women’s Centre’s Young People’s Empowerment Project took to the floor to share with all participants the excellent work they do with young people in schools and community settings on personal development, sexual health awareness, baby think it over, parenting and dad to be classes. The interactive session on the risks of getting an STI and the dangers of alcohol and drugs in pregnancy really got the participants involved and helped get the messages across.
The table conversations focussed on creating an “Issues Menu” for the “Mini-Feasts” to follow, monthly issue based conversations which will take place in host areas across Greater North Belfast between October and March 2012.
Before more sharing time over lunch, everyone enjoyed a Bollywood Taster Session with Rini from ArtseKta to highlight the importance of experiencing a wide range of cultural diversity which is so much part of an inclusive and accepting Greater North Belfast.

The first of the “Mini-Feasts” is taking place on Monday, October 17th from 10.30am – 1pm with a bite of lunch at The Dunanney Centre, Rathcoole – contact anne.carr3@btopenworld.com to register or telephone Anne at Shankill Women’s Centre.
A range of special events is planned for International Women’s Day 2012 including a large round table event with politicians and decision makers to highlight the important issues raised and discussed at the “Mini-Feasts” and a finale celebration.
Vicky Moore from The Dunanney Centre, Rathcoole is currently recruiting 35 women from across North Belfast to get involved in a new drama project she is organising called “Northern Stars”. We hope to link in with this project so why not express interest in taking part by contacting Vicky on 028 9086 1941 or by email – vmoore.dunanney@btconnect.com!
