Summer Scheme

With Funding received from the Belfast City Council the Centre were able to operate a summer scheme once again. With this funding we were able to plan and implement a viable five week programme which would facilitate a wide range of positive experiences for the children. It was hoped that the parents and carers would also benefit from the respite and support over the summer period.

The summer scheme programme within the centre aims to provide high quality learning and play environment for the children as well as a broad balanced curriculum that address the needs of the children in all areas of their development and will ensure continuity and advancement of their intellectual and social development.

All the activities contained within the programme were suited within the developmental abilities of the children using the summer scheme. The scheme was run for five weeks in the summer and enabled the children to meet and get to know children from outside their own area.

The programme incorporated a swimming activity every week, a mini sports day, off site trips once a week which involved visits to

  1. Leslie Hill Farm Ballymoney
  2. World of owls Conservation Centre Randalstowm Forest.
  3. Planetarium Armagh
  4. Crawfordsburn Scout Centre
  5. Auntie Sandra’s Candy Factory Castlereagh Road.

Over the five weeks there were a number of workshops

  1. Crafts,
  2. Ceramics,
  3. Healthy Eating,
  4. Indian Culture
  5. Scout Reach Activities.

All of these were greatly enjoyed by the children who both shared new experiences and acquired new skills.

The questionnaires which came back from both parents and children were very positive.

We implement a programme that will allow the children to access as many activities and opportunities as possible, while catering for different ages and needs within the group.

The aim of the summer scheme within the centre is that all the children taking part will have fun make new friends but also benefit from their time with us and learn new skills.
